Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Wash ‘n Zip so different than all the other pet beds in the world?
The two main benefits are the ease & thoroughness of cleaning, and the multiple uses of the Wash ‘n Zip Pet Bed.
Other pet beds are not designed to just easily throw in your washer & dryer, so they don’t get thoroughly cleaned and become smelly and unsanitary over time. Some other beds feature a removable launderable cover, but the inside cushion of the bed will remain dirty if not washed properly. There is NO pet bed on the market that is as easily and thoroughly launderable as the Wash 'n Zip. We are the only one of it's kind available.
What are the multiple features and benefits?
- Crate Pad – We chose the dimensions of your Wash ’n Zip Pet Bed to fit the majority of pet crates on the market, so it can also be used as a crate pad.
- Car Seat Cover – When travelling with your pet, simply unfold your Wash ’n Zip Pet Bed and use it as a car seat cover.
- Furniture Throw – Protect your furniture at home by unfolding your Wash ’n Zip Pet Bed and covering your sofa or chairs.
- Blanket – Some pets like to be covered when they sleep, so unfold your Wash ’n Zip Pet Bed to use as a comfortable blanket.
- Odor Control – Wash and dry your Wash ‘n Zip Pet Bed as often as you want, which keeps your bed fresh and clean. The entire bed gets cleaned inside and out, unlike other beds that aren’t washable or only feature a washable cover.
- Saves Money – Because it can be cleaned repeatedly, one Wash ‘n Zip Pet Bed will save you from having to purchase new beds when they become soiled, smelly and dirty.
- Ease of Use – Anybody that has tried to launder the typical pet bed knows how cumbersome it can be to fit a bed in a washer/dryer, remove the pet bed cover, or stuff the interior padding back into the cover. The Wash ‘n Zip takes seconds to easily unzip so it can be conveniently placed into a household washer.
- Environmentally Friendly – Many other pet beds must be discarded once they are soiled since they can’t be properly laundered. Many pet owners view pet beds as essentially being disposable because they just throw them away once they get so bad. But The Wash ‘n Zip is designed to be laundered over and over again, and is built to last.
Why do the Large and X-Large beds say “single fold,” while the XS, Small, and Medium say “two fold?”
Per our 1-minute demo video, the X-Small, Small and Medium beds fold/unfold twice, creating four layers of padding when the bed is folded and zipped together. This is what is meant by "two fold." Therefore these smaller beds quadruple in length/width when unzipped and unfolded into a blanket .
I originally made the Large and X-Large so they folded/unfolded twice just like the smaller sizes, but they were so humongous that they wouldn't properly fit in a household washer/dryer. So I made the LG and XL so it folded over ONCE, so there are two layers of cushion, and added more batting to the inside to provide adequate padding. So the LG and XL actually double in size when you unfold them into a blanket.
What’s on the inside of the Wash ‘n Zip Pet Bed?
Many dog beds are stuffed with loose filling, and that’s why they get lumpy and misshapen when laundered. The inside of the Wash ‘n Zip consists of sheets of 100% polyester batting that are sewn into the outer seems of the bed and then box-stitched, so the padding stays in place and the bed keeps its shape over time. The polyester batting dries quickly in the dryer.
How does the Wash ‘n Zip Pet Bed aid with flea prevention?
Other beds are the perfect breeding ground for fleas since their eggs & larva may penetrate the outer covering of the bed and inhabit the interior padding. However the entire Wash ‘n Zip can be run through the washer & dryer, thus interrupting the entire flea life cycle. We live in Florida, have two dogs and a cat, and haven't had fleas for years.
Why is the Comfort Cushion only available for the Large and X-Large sizes? What about the smaller size Wash ‘n Zip beds?
I created the Comfort Cushion for the LG and XL sizes only because those two sizes unzip and unfold ONCE so there are two layers of cushion. The XS, SM, and MED beds unzip and fold TWICE so there are four layers of cushion. Also, larger dogs may tend to need a little more cushion than smaller dogs due to their weight. Overwhelmingly, our 4-legged customers seem satisfied with the amount of padding in the smaller sizes.
But if you want to provide more cushion for the smaller sizes, you can get a LG Comfort Cushion, fold it in half, and insert inside your Small or Medium size Wash 'n Zip bed. Other customers have done that and it works well. These beds will be about 4 ½ - 5 inches thick with the Comfort Cushion on the inside.
What are the laundering instructions?
The Wash 'n Zip Bed, Comfort Cushion, and Puppy Proofer are all fully launderable in both the washer and dryer.
The fabric manufacturer recommends no bleach, cold water in the washer and low heat in dryer. It’s quite possible that their recommendations are conservative like a lot of other product warnings.
I can attest that for 8+ years now, my wife and I routinely wash them in warm/hot water, and generally dry them on the medium/high heat cycle in the dryer, and they have held up very well. I also sometimes add about 1/4 cup of bleach to the washer to help remove odors. I understand that OxiClean can also be effective for removing odors.
Please understand that washing/drying any fabrics on a more vigorous cycle will tend to shorten the life of the materials versus a less vigorous cycle, so keep that in mind when deciding what settings to use in your laundry.
Do we offer a warranty on our products?
Usually a defect will present itself pretty soon, so we warranty our products against defects for 90 days, but I make exceptions to that rule. Please understand that we do not warranty against damage done by chewing since a dog's behavior is completely out of our control and there is no fabric that is truly chew-proof. I have never had a client report that our fabrics were compromised by dogs scratching, so they've proven to be quite sturdy.
We are a small family business, and I (Stan Pelz) am the one point of contact for anything Wash 'n Zip related, so please communicate any concerns or issues you may have. I can't stand the thought of anyone unhappy with owning one of our beds, so I'll do what I can to ensure you don't regret purchasing from us.
What is the return/exchange policy?
We are happy to accept returns and exchanges of Wash 'n Zip products as long as the product is unused and can be offered to another customer as new. I will provide a full refund or credit of the purchase price (less the shipping fee). Please notify Stan Pelz via phone (407-454-1167) or email (info@washnzippetbed.com). You may return products in the same box they arrived in. Return address is 603 E Wildmere Ave Longwood, FL 32750. We do not cover the cost of the shipping on the return because it would be difficult to incur that expense as a small business.
What are the materials used in Wash ‘n Zip products? Are they toxic?
On the Wash 'n Zip beds and Puppy Proofers, the top fabric (Oatmeal Sherpa, Animal Print, Chocolate Brown, Dark Gray) is 100% polyester. The khaki fabric on the bed exterior, and underside of the Puppy Proofer is a 30%/70% polyester/cotton blend. The inner batting and zipper on the Wash 'n Zip Pet Bed is 100% polyester. The zipper teeth are POM resin, and the zipper pull is steel, coated with POM resin.
There are NO flame retardants in our products.
All materials are non-toxic to your pets.
Our products are California Prop 65 compliant.
When we supplied 1500 Wash 'n Zip Pet Beds to a large multi-national pet food company, they required that a full audit of our factory be conducted and that we verify there are no toxic materials in our products. We passed this company's stringent quality assurance requirements when several other pet bed suppliers had not.
Where are Wash ‘n Zip products manufactured and what is the country of origin for the materials?
I'm about as patriotic and pro-USA as you can find, but unfortunately, finding a domestic manufacturer has been a repeated dead end for me. I wish that more people could see what I've seen in my quest to have our products made domestically, so please listen to my story.

As you probably know, manufacturing overall in the USA has been decimated, but some industries have been hit harder than others. It's my experience that the sewing industry and the textile manufacturing industry are two that have been mostly eradicated. Over the years, I have contacted numerous US sewing contractors, and few of them have even returned my calls. Those that have responded have specifically told me I have almost no chance of having my product made domestically and some have specifically told me "you need to go to China for that." Even if they were manufactured domestically, the materials themselves would likely have to come from China. Some sewing contractors have told me they don't even have the quilting machine necessary to make our beds, so they don't have the capability of manufacturing our product.
Even if there was some way to have our product made in the USA, I would likely have to double my prices, and how many people would be willing to purchase at those levels?
So in a nutshell, I have been persuaded by numerous advisors that China is my best choice for having our products made. If it weren't for China, I would not exist as a business. I have sourced factories in India for our production, but have yet to see the same level of quality from those manufacturers.
Fortunately, the Chinese people I've worked with have been wonderful. They are nice, service-oriented, and responsive. The manufacturing quality has proven to be very good as evidenced by our 200+ customer testimonials (click HERE). When we made 1500 Wash 'n Zip Beds for Nestle Purina, they put us through a stringent quality assurance process and required that a full audit be performed on our factory to ensure that the work environments are satisfactory and the materials aren't harmful. We were the first pet bed company that passed Purina's requirements and we earned them as a customer!!! All materials are non-toxic to pets and are California Prop 65 compliant.
We are a small, growing, patriotic family business that supports numerous other U.S. businesses that provide services to our company. I appreciate any American that believes strongly in "made in the USA." But please understand that small business owners like me are not the ones that have created our situation here in America, and I don't feel it's fair or wise to punish folks like us that are trying to pursue our dreams of entrepreneurship. We'd love to have you as a customer so please let me know if I may answer any questions for you. Thank you for listening!
